Superlink@Technion

Superlink@Technion helps geneticists perform genetic linkage analysis, which is a statistical method used to associate functionality of genes with their location on chromosomes. It typically serves for detecting mutated disease-provoking genes. This analysis can be extremely computationally intensive and has been parallelized for simultaneous execution on many computers.

Geneticists submit the data for the analysis via Superlink-online linkage analysis portal. The tasks are then automatically parallelized and scheduled for execution on many computers in the Technion, in the University of Wisconsin in Madison, and also on many computers all over the world.

Applications available are:

  • Microsoft Windows (98 or later) running on an Intel x86-compatible CPU
  • Linux running on an Intel x86-compatible CPU
  • Linux running on an AMD x86_64 or Intel EM64T CPU
  • Mac OS X 10.3 or later running on Motorola PowerPC
  • Mac OS 10.4 or later running on Intel

System Requirements:

  • RAM: 1GB of RAM per CPU or Core is suggested, as the computation typically requires up to 700MB of memory.
  • Disk space: insignificant.
  • Supported platforms: Vista/XP/2000/NT, Linux and MacOS (PowerPC and Intel).
  • BOINC client version: 5.8.x is most preferrable
